Merge with Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Hawaii and/or rename
[edit]Someone tried to indicate that these are really all the same place, but was reverted. Right now it looks like the CDP was called "Hawaiian Ocean View" in 2000 Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) id 2414037, with the populated places of "Hawaiian Ocean View" and "Hawaiian Ocean View Estates" (the first subdivision in the area) also in the GNIS as ids 1867253 and 1905339 respectively, all with coordinates very close but not exactly the same. HOVE is notable for being one of the largest subdivisions in the world at the time. As discussed before, "Hawaii Ocean View" should probably also redirect as "Hawaii Ocean View Estates" does for completeness.
The US Post Office calls the whole area just "Ocean View" (since the county and state are already named "Hawaii"), and that is the name now used by local residents.
In my opinion, there should be one article called "Ocean View, Hawaii" that talks about both the history of HOVE and the CDP info, with the others all redirecting to it. But suspect if I did that it would be reverted again. So do we leave the misleading info until the 2010 census data comes out? W Nowicki (talk) 17:22, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, you see I created Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, but I never noticed that it happened to be very near Hawaiian Ocean View. I reverted because there were no sources provided, and "largest neighborhood" in the United States is impossible to state exactly; and even then, I didn't observe that there was a separate HOVE article. Best idea, in my mind, would be to merge HOVE here. Any objection if I do that? Nyttend (talk) 20:53, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that was essentially what I was proposing. The actual claim is that HOVE was the largest single real-estate development, with 10,697 acres. Of course "neighborhood" is not accurate. I could not verify that, so just quoted the size in the HOVE article. Just taking the second and third paragraphs from the HOVE article into this one, and then redirecting all variants of the name to this might be a good start. Since the USPS now uses the "Ocean View" name exclusively, my guess would be the 2010 census would also. W Nowicki (talk) 02:57, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've merged. Nyttend (talk) 03:43, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
I rearranged things, hopefully it's a little clearer. I think part of the problem was that the CDP is named for HOVE, and it wasn't mentioned until the bottom of the article that it also includes several other subdivisions. Also, even though I said "usually called Ocean View" in the intro as a nod to the article title, it's never called "Hawaiian Ocean View" except by the census. KarlM (talk) 07:21, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
